Molten Metal Dip Measurement System with Graphical Display, Trend, Data-logging & Message Display Readout

A PC system located in the Arc furnace control room is connected serially to a data acquisition module. The input to the module is produced from the disposable thermocouple fitted to the temperature measurement lance. The system determines when the thermocouple is fitted and displays a ‘ready’ message on the PC display and also remotely on a large digit LED display mounted in view of the lance operator. When the lance is inserted into the molten metal the system detects the temperature rise and displays ‘measuring’, a graph of recorded temperature in real time appears on the control room display. The time for the measurement is set at four seconds to avoid damage to the lance and at the end of this period the system operates a siren to call for the removal of the lance from the furnace. The lance operator removes the spent thermocouple and this is detected by the system. Software detects the ‘Plato’ of the temperature profile depending on pre-set temperature criteria being satisfied

Autocal Calibration Assistant History
The system displays either ‘good dip’ or ‘bad dip’ together with the recorded temperature. All data is logged for QA records and can be recalled on demand. Comprehensive Engineering & Calibration facilities are provided including ‘System Autocal’ that automatically determines that the spot check calibrator is in use and ‘Calibration Assistant’ that allows calibration and adjustment from the lance without repeated trips to the control room.
